Masquerading? Choose Hardened Cybersecurity to Safeguard Your Assets and Operations

Dynamic AI-driven is the only cybersecurity solution that provides layers of checks and balances to enable visibility of oncoming attacks.

Two weeks from today, the world will begin a weekend of Halloween frolic, fright, and fraudulence. I love how Cybersecurity Awareness Month is OCTOBER – when typically harmless, altered faces are painted and adorned, and random acts of tricking and treating occur, leaving onlookers bewildered as to who is wearing “the mask”. Less harmless and frolicking are the group of hackers – not dressed as such but fully engrossed in their profession – who may act out their demonic motives with a trick or two up their sleeve!

During Q3, a few new cyber-scams have thrown busy IT teams off their game. We learn from researcher Corben Leo’s findings in speaking with the hacker that…“the MFA fatigue attack on UBER was the result of hackers contacting the targeted contractor multiple times on WhatsApp, claiming they were from Uber IT and the only way to get rid of the nonstop notifications was to accept one! Once authorized for access to Uber intranet, the hackers began scanning the corporate network until they found a PowerShell script with admin credentials for the platform Uber uses to manage its login secrets, including DA, DUO, Onelogin, AWS, and GSuite.“

Every day, it seems a new monkey-wrench is thrown in IT’s face in one form or another (phishing, malware, ransomware) and has them on the look-out. Spoken security practices get tightened, becoming “must have/do/document” actions.

In comparing what has happened in 2022 with increased cybercriminal capability and progressive breach attempts, I landed on this comparison which hopefully resonates with you who are part of a management team responsible for securing company networks, information assets, and operability without interruption: Consider the 80+ types of autoimmune diseases that are prevalent and growing.

These occur when the body’s natural defense system can’t tell the difference between a victim’s own cells and foreign ones, causing the body to mistakenly attack its own healthy tissue. The cause? When the body senses danger from a virus or infection, the immune system kicks into gear and attacks it (known as an immune response.) When the healthy cells and tissues are caught up in this response, it results in any one of the number of autoimmune diseases.

Now imagine your IT team doing much the same when it senses danger from a software virus or full-on breach. If your team relies on antiquated tools and technology, without experienced professionals monitoring activity and data access by unidentified intruders, could they recognize the attack and derail a cyber-invasion? Supporting users the best they can, IT may scramble during an intrusion due to mis-reading a calculated response to ‘good bacteria’ (resulting from effective whitelisting). In-house IT teams are simply not equipped to readily avert breaches and mitigate subsequent damage, alone.

Likewise, the appearance of a “well secured” static protection solution – relying upon outdated anti-virus, backups, and the intent to use MFA but with no controls to impose its use by employees – becomes the band-aid that, on an infected wound, worsens and jeopardizes the company. Dynamic AI-driven is the only cybersecurity solution that provides layers of checks and balances to enable visibility of oncoming attacks. When viewed by experienced cyber-eyes, those multiple avenues for detection allow cyber career specialists to stop damage in its tracks before a network is even awakened to trouble brewing.

In both cases – Auto-Immune Devastation or Cyber Engineered “Ravageware” – the critical action is containment.

No firm’s IT team is an island and they can’t contain a cyber breach unless they work around the clock. Look at the trail of businesses, large and small, who have tried and failed. What your IT team can do is fortify your firm’s network by locking arms with a cyber-security partner. That way, you stand to learn who is behind the mask and how they intend to take your company down. Leveraging a partner’s cyber prowess, and the ballast that becomes for IT responsible staff, repositions your firm strongly from the inside, out.

The clock is ticking. Learn TODAY what vulnerabilities in your network need addressed and take those off the table of tricks that can stump your IT team. Then leave your broom in the closet this year and sport a Heroes costume, having fully safeguarded your firm one step ahead of the demons targeting you for an October wild ride you can and should avoid!
